Donna W. Hill is a writer, speaker, animal lover and avid knitter from Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains. Her first novel, The Heart of Applebutter Hill, is an adventure-mystery with excursions into fantasy for general audiences. Professionals in the fields of education and the arts have endorsed it as a diversity, inclusion and anti-bullying resource for junior high through college. A songwriter with three albums, Hill provided educational and motivational programs in the Greater Philadelphia area for fifteen years before moving to the mountains. Her essay, "Satori Green" appears in Richard Singer's Now, Embracing the Present Moment (2010, O-Books), and her cancer-survivor story is in Dawn Colclasure’s On the Wings of Pink Angels (2012). From 2009 through 2013, Hill was an online journalist for numerous publications, covering topics ranging from nature, health care and accessibility to music, knitting and chocolate. She is an experienced talk show guest and guest blogger and presents workshops about writing and her novel for school, university, community and business groups. The Heart of Applebutter Hill is available in print and e-versions at Amazon, B&N, Apple, Sony, Smashwords, Create Space and other outlets. It is also available through Bookshare for readers with print disabilities.

        Joan, I did a post a couple years ago about the range of options for retiring guide dogs, and I thought my readers would enjoy hearing “how tough” poor old Ari is having it. 🙂

          Oh, ari has it really rough around here…..He has two options for sleeping in our bedroom (although not with us, thank you very much) and a cushy seating option off the human furniture in the living hoom; he gets plenty of snacks, including doggy treats, Cheerios and peanuts; he has a fenced yard to run in, and car rides once in a while, and his groomer even comes to him..I’d say he’s living quite large for a retired elder-dog. *But let’s face it, he deserves it for all the walks and the sense of freedom he provided me in his work life…thank you, Ari,you amazing WonderDog!*

            Campbell is enjoying his transition from working to retirement. He especially likes having the control of accepting or rejecting his harness.

            I offer it and if he feels like it he goes, and if not he shows me his belly and says quite clearly to me, “No thanks, take the stick, watch out for fake service dogs, and car monsters and Oh, please, by the way? Bring me a stake.”

            LOL.

            Loved Joan’s post, and I’ll never forget the time that I dropped an orange, and as it rolled across the floor, Campbell leapt up off his bed, ran to catch it and brought it to me proud as could be. He was quite annoyed when I did not finish our game of catch but rather ate the ball and worse, didn’t offer him any. LOL.

            Patty, and they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Mo heard about that rejecting the harness thing and is lobbying for early retirement. I’m thinking that 3 is just a wee bit too young. As a compromise, I told him he doesn’t need to work in the heat of the day in summer – we’re having a heat wave. He pretends he doesn’t know that I wasn’t going to make him do that anyway.

            Well, if you download and read Bubba Tails From the Puppy Nursery At The Seeing Eye, you’ll see that King Campbell delivers a stern warning to pups about flaking off their job.
